====== Olympics 2008 ====== [[Home]] - [[Schedule]] ====== Flag Football ====== ===== Volunteers ===== ===== Participant Parameters ===== * 8 teams (8 schools) * 10 per team, 7 people to play in a match at any given time ===== Rules and Procedures ===== * If there is sufficient space, there will be 4 games running concurrently (~1 hour). If only two games running concurrently, then it will be ~1.5 hours. * Each match shall be capped at 15 minutes. There will be 2-minute breaks between matches. * 4 games first round (8 teams) * 2 games second round (4 teams) * 1 game for final round (2 teams) * 3 referees per match (so 12 in the first round for 4 concurrent matches) * 10 flags per team - Team captain will be the only player to confer with referee - Each team shall receive 3 timeout (30) second - Scoring should be: Touchdown = 7 pts; Safety = 2pts - No direct handoffs allowed. Any pitch out must travel a minimum of 3’ in the air - Only 1 forward pass allowed per each down (quarter back throw only) - Only 1 defender may rush the QB. Once the QB pitches the ball this rule is waived - Blocking RULES: blockers may not leave their feet in order to block, batter down, or avoid an opponent. They may extend their arms but must keep their hand inside the shoulders of the opponent and may not use their hands to hold or grab the opponent. - Defensive rusher(s) may not make contact with the passer but must go on for the flags or the pass block. They may jump to block a pass but may not leave their feet to hurdle or avoid an opponent. If while going for the pass block they make contact with the passer, it shall be the officials decision whether the contact could have been avoided and what penalty to call. Any player rushing at the snap must line up directly opposite the center - Ball player may not stiff arm, slap away the hands of the defender, strike, push, or attempt to run over a defender. They may not hurdle a defender or leave their feet in order to gain additional yardage. - Receivers must keep 1 foot in bounds in order for the catch to be legal - Fumbled balls or muffed snaps will be dead at the spot in which they hit the ground - If a runners flag come off while running, the ball shall be dead at the spot in which the flags came off - If a receivers flag come off while running a route, the ball shall be dead at the spot of the catch - Substitutes must inform the official before going into the game - Substitutions maybe made during dead ball situations only and must be reported to the game official ===== Inventory Needs ===== * (40) flags of 2 different colors (3' x 7') * (4) football * chalk mark * (6) yellow referee flags
