• November 2007: ICC agreed (though not formally voted) that UVSA remains politically neutral, i.e. to not take stances on issues in the community that could divide people into proponent and opponent camps. Issues are to be studied and all viewpoints are to be represented.

• Each ICC representative can talk to their VSA officers at their respective campus.
• An annual summit with workshops focusing on a particular issue.
• A youth forum focusing on a particular issue.

• Do all VSAs represented in the ICC have, in its mission statement, any language indicating their take on political matters (issues that divide people into proponents and opponents)?
• What is the purpose of taking a stance? What do we hope to accomplish by taking stances?
• When do we decide to take a stance on behalf of the Vietnamese student community, whether or not our constituents are knowledgeable about the issue?
• Nonpolitical stances should really be considered non-interference stances, i.e. accepts the status quo and chooses not to challenge it.

• Non-partisan democracy

• Direct democracy

The United Vietnamese Student Associations of Northern California (UVSA) is a non-profit, non-partisan, community-based organization. UVSA was founded in 2002 as a means for youths to organize socially and civically within the local communities. Committed to cultural awareness, educating youths, and community service, the UVSA staff is composed of volunteers including young professionals, college students, and high school students. Encompassing the finest young leaders in the Vietnamese American community, UVSA strives at accomplishing its educational goals, charitable goals, and cultural programs goals.
